Portraits and More

Hey folks, in February I showed two new fairly large pieces for the first time, square portraits of two subjects I have painted before. One is a portrait of my local model Alfonso, and the other is a portrait based on some photographs I did in the Cincinnati days of a friend named Chip.

In these pieces, which I have not yet captured entirely well in photographs, I'm using more textured backgrounds and a less flat color palette within the individual shapes. I find the square format very compelling to use to frame the composition.

The "...and more" part?

I'm in the midst of tackling subject matter that I've never really tried before and I hope to have some pieces to show you shortly, certainly by the June First Friday show...

Hope you like, let me know what you think...
